All women want to be able to prevent breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the biggest killers of women each year. Millions of dollars are spent each year on research trying to find new cures. But, of course, the best route of staying safe is to just take every step you can to prevent breast cancer.

Around 1993, there were studies published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that indicate there could be a link between omega 3 fatty acids and the prevention of breast cancer. The results aren’t conclusive as of yet, but many more studies have come out also indicating this connection. Omega 3 fatty acids can be found in fish oils and flax seed oil. They contribute to the health of your heart and are anti-inflammatory compounds. This anti-inflammatory nature may be where they could help prevent breast cancer.

Omega 3s in your diet generally come from fish or flax seeds. If you don’t consume very much of these foods then you may have a moderate omega 3 deficiency. This can be seriously harmful to your health. It can present itself as depression and heart problems. In addition, in can really interfere with your immune system which makes you more sensitive to all kinds of health issues.

Because of the auto-immune issue, this is where researchers think omega 3s can also contribute to breast cancer prevention. An anti-inflammatory agent could really help to calm down those cells that have gone “haywire”. If the cell is calmed and does not start dividing uncontrollably, then the cancer could be avoided.

While most people end up taking omega 3 for their overall health, but they also want to do everything possible to prevent any kind of cancer. Memory function and heart health are also helped when taking omega 3s. The evidence is not set in stone on whether or not omega 3 supplements can really help to prevent cancer, but it really is smart to be prepared.
