Brush Your Teeth To Prolong Your Life
Friday, March 27th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIn many cultures it has been thought that different areas of the body are connected to each other. The feet can be related to the head and massaging them can relieve headaches and migraines. Research carried out by doctors has now found that your teeth are related to your heart.
People who frequently visit their nearest dental practice and take good care of their teeth are less likely to suffer heart problems like cardiovascular disease. Professor Howard Jenkinson from Bristol University, made the discovery in a joint effort with the Royal College of Surgeons. The discovery was made whilst they were researching into how blood cells are affected by bacteria.
There are almost 700 unique strains of bacteria inside your mouth. People that forget to use their toothbrush enough tend to suffer from poor dental hygiene. This results in bleeding gums, which are attacked by the bacteria. When this happens the bacteria then enter the blood stream and are now known to be independent factors in causing heart disease. These independent risk factors for heart disease are a result of oral bacterial infections brought on by bacteria like Streptococcus gordonii and Streptococcus sanguinis.
The findings have explained why some antibiotics fail to work in the treatment of heart disease. Dr Steve Kerringan is now working with Professor Jenkinson in order to try and find a solution to the problem. Until a solution is found it is recommended you look after your teeth by brushing them regularly with an electric toothbrush. You will find tooth care products are widely available from tooth whitening products such as crest white strips to traditional dental care like an electric toothbrush or dental floss.
Those of you that are worried about your dental hygiene should get in touch with your local dentist, to find out about the different practice branded dental plans.Dental plans are the perfect way of spreading the cost of your dentist costs rather than having costly dental insurance.
